The traditional Pelion architecture Filyra mansion is located in the village of Kalamaki Propan in Pelion in the northeastern Pelion and hosts its visitors during the summer, for its crystal clear beaches and the freshness of the lush landscape.

Its name "Kalamaki" is taken from the homonymous beautiful beach where it springs water from the spring that jets between the rocks. They called it "Kalamaki" because in the past the passers-by put a reed at the source to use it as a natural tap to drink water or to rinse them out of the salt.

The other name "Propan" is taken because it lies before all the villages of the Northeastern Pelion and faces "above all" the sun rising from the Aegean Sea. It is followed by the villages Xurihti, Tsagarada and Mouresi.

In Kalamaki is also quarried the famous “Propan Plate Stone” with which they covered the roofs of the houses in Pelion and made the cobbled streets and Monasteries of Mount Athos.

Pelion, the mountain of the Centaurs is one of the most beautiful regions in Greece. For the lovers of mythology, Chiron Kendavros, the son of Saturn and of the nymph Filyra, is an important feature of the Greek mythology, both for his relationship with the healing and for his relationship with the teaching of heroes.

Mythology says that when Saturn, who fell in love with Filyra, was perceived by his wife Rea, he was transformed into a horse, and is this transformation that gave Chiron its twin form. He is half man and half animal.

He is a Divine Child who did not experience maternal care or parental interest. Saturn left after joining with Filyra, and Filyra abandoned the baby when she saw his malformation and, in frustration, asked him to be transformed into a tree, Filyra (Tilia sativa). The god Apollo became his stepfather, who grew him with love, educated him in music and he gained wisdom and the charisma of prophecy and he became a heroes’ teacher, such as of Achilles.

The unparalleled natural beauty of Pelion combines sea and mountain and its picturesque villages are ideal for dozens of sports activities and tours.

In small distance from Kalamaki Propan you will find Tsagarada, Milies, Neochori, Xourichti and Lampinou.
